Planning a Baby Shower

This article has information for the novice as well as the more experienced. Information is provided pertaining to when to plan the shower, who should give the shower and how to go about planning a baby shower. Also included is some historical background of baby showers for you entertainment.

Baby Showers have been a tradition around the world for many years. It is a cheerful celebration for the mom-to-be and the baby shower guests alike. Just like everything around us, even baby showers have changed with the passage of time. Earlier baby showers were more traditional. Present day celebrations include almost anything and everything to suit the baby shower hostess and the guests.

In the present time baby showers can take any shape, type or baby shower theme. Baby showers vary from the strictly traditional baby shower, to simply wild and cool baby showers. Gone are the days when baby showers were boring and dry. Now you can celebrate the occasion any way you wish. The main thing is that it entertains everyone included in the baby shower party.

A couple of things about baby showers is how to go about planning the shower, and who should throw the baby shower for the mom-to-be.

There are hundreds of ways to celebrate the baby shower. As for who can give the baby shower, anyone except the expectant couple.

Remember, the baby shower is given to celebrate the expected arrival of the newborn child. So, it is proper for anyone to take the initiative. A relative, close friend, or even a close co-worker should feel perfectly okay about giving a baby shower for the parents-to-be.

Also, the shower doesn't neccessarily have to be planned and given by only one person. After all, a baby shower can be a huge undertaking, and having several people participate will help divide up all the work involved. A group of friends or relatives could get together and plan the event. This would be a wonderful display of showing your happiness for the new arrival for the parents-to-be.

However, traditional baby shower ethics were somewhat stricter than today. That only non-relatives are to host a baby shower—friends, co-workers, church groups, and even neighbors etc. But times have changed, and it has become more common and acceptable for relatives to host baby showers too. And why not? Everyone has a right to celebrate the occasion. When it comes to close relatives they are supposed to support the couple.

Not only this, but a baby shower is also an opportunity to pamper the guest of honor. Once the new baby joins the family, it may take the new parents a considerable amount of time, money and effort to indulge in greeting and partying with the baby shower guests. So, instead of burdening them further with more responsibilities. Why not treat them to something special?

The Gift of a Baby Shower

Baby Showers are certainly events which foster the warm feelings of love and happiness. They are a celebration of new life and new beginnings, not only for the child, but for the parents and their friends and family.

Having a baby turns a couple into a family, and is a very special event indeed. However, baby showers provide more than just a reason to drink punch eat cake and play the silly little games that make the hosted event so much fun.

Baby Showers are a way of letting the expectant couple knows that their friends and family love them, and joyfully accept the blessed new arrival into their lives. It's also the time to give the more likely than not nervous couple the reassurance that everything will be just fine, and that they will make a nice home for their new bundle of joy.

There is also the practical side; a baby shower can be the prime source to outfit the first time parents with some of the new baby essentials. If it's the second (or more) child for the couple, then it's a great time to replenish the supplies that may no longer be on hand from the first birth.

Makes no difference whether it's the first birth or the tenth birth, (yikes!) the expenses of preparing for a baby can put a strain on the budget of the expectant parents. Hosting a baby shower offers a great opportunity for friends and family to relieve some of the financial concerns for the expectant parents by providing some of the things needed for the care of their newborn.

When giving a baby shower, the event can be as simple or elaborate as your imagination can deliver. With this idea in mind, you should not hesitate to explore all the options that are open to you. By doing your research, you're sure to find many ideas which will inspire you, or at least make it easier to give the expectant family a baby shower in the manner to which they deserve.

Planning, organizing and giving a baby shower should be a non stressful and indeed a joyous occasion for all involved.

The Gift Idea Of Bling

Jewelry is a favorite gift idea to give or receive. Whether the jewelry is costume or the finest gold and diamonds, everyone loves a little bling-bling. This is a gift that almost any woman and many, many men can enjoy.

Gifts of jewelry can range in price from a few dollars into the hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more. Those who are fortunate enough to be able to purchase anything they desire can spend millions of dollars on jewelry. For most people, however, a gift budget constrains exactly what jewelry can be given.

The exact jewelry selected depends largely on the recipient and their relationship to the giver. The jewelry a man gives to his wife is much different than the jewelry a teen age girl gives to another young lady who is also in high school. Not only will the prices probably differ drastically, but how personal a gift is appropriate will also differ.

A man should have no problem coming up with a gift idea of jewelry for his wife. Most women love anything with diamonds. Whether the diamonds are large or small, many or few, the very idea of receiving "a girl's best friend" is thrilling. Of course, the larger the better but most husbands must stay within a gift budget. Frequently, a husband will chose a ring, earrings or a necklace for his beloved wife. A tennis bracelet is another jewelry gift that can be quite affordable since the stone

A teen may give a girl with whom she is friends costume jewelry such as earrings, bracelets, anklets, a necklace or even a small ring. Scatter pins and brooches for dressing up outfits are also a nice gift idea.

A wonderful gift for a mother is a mother's ring. This ring contains a birthstone from each of the mother's children, creating a unique ring all her own. Another popular mother's gift is a mother's necklace which has a birthstone embellished charm in the shape of a girl or boy for each child. Mothers also love necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pins and broaches. In fact, mothers love almost anything one of her children gives her in the line of jewelry!

Fathers, husbands and boyfriends can enjoy nice gifts of jewelry as well. Some men simply do not like and refuse to wear jewelry, but other men really love the shine and sparkle of a little bling. Bracelets and neck chains are the most frequently given men's jewelry gifts. Watches are considered to fall into this area as well.

You can find a jewelry gift for just about anyone you might need to purchase a gift for. Even babies can receive the gift of jewelry. Little girl babies are often given a bracelet or necklace by a family member. Baby rings are another great gift idea for the littlest ones on your list.

Baby Shower Planning and Hosting

Planning and organization are crucial to hosting a successful baby shower. Below are some important topics to consider when planning:

1) Who will host the shower?

The person that plans and hosts the shower can be anyone, but is usually someone who is close to the new or expecting mother. Normally, a close friend or family member will do all the preparations, but sometimes the new mother will help as well, particularly with the guest list. Sometimes a small group of friends can plan the event together.

In the event of a surprise baby shower, planning must occur more carefully and invitations should be sent out in secret. In this circumstance, people who are not as close to the new mother will be involved in acquiring supplies and getting the word out.

2) Who should be invited?

Be sure to invite all the mother's friends and family to the event. If planning a surprise party, make sure that everyone you tell helps spread the word. A close friend or family member may know most of the mother's friends, but it can also be helpful to ask co-workers and other friends to make sure that no one is left out.

Also, men are increasingly being included in these parties. An all women's shower can be different than a shower with both men and women, so the planner should consider these things as well.

If other young children will be in attendance, then make sure to plan events for them too. Not planning for children is a common oversight that adults make when planning parties of this nature. Baby shower games are a fun way for both children and adults to celebrate.

3) Where and when should the shower occur?

The party should be held at a location that is comfortable to the new mother. Oftentimes, the most common place to host a party is at a friend's or family member's home. In this case, the mother will not have to worry about cleaning up afterwards.

Sometimes, the party is hosted at the mother's place. This can be convenient as well because the mother doesn't have to go anywhere. Friends of the mother can help with the clean up afterwards.

For larger baby showers, banquet halls or other locations can be rented. Other places include parks, restaurants, catered dining rooms, or anywhere else that might be appropriate. It is okay to plan things differently as long as the mother and everyone else has a good time.

Most baby showers occur several weeks before the baby is due. Sometimes showers occur after the baby is born, which allows the guest to see the new baby. When to have the baby shower is entirely based on the preferences of the host and the mother.

Most showers occur on the weekends. Saturday is a popular day for these parties. They can occur in the afternoon or evening, depending on various factors, like people's schedules and how much you want to spend. Generally, dinner parties are more expensive than hosting lunch.

4) What activites should be planned?

There are many games and activities that can be planned in advance to make a baby shower memorable. Baby themed games are a fun way for everyone to celebrate a new baby. Do a search for "baby shower games" on the internet and you will find many games, some of which you can purchase and some that are free.

A short speech of congratulations is also a nice surprise for the new mother. If such a speech occurs, it is usually from a close friend or family member. A good time for congratulations is before eating lunch or dinner.

Finally, make some time before, between, and after events for everyone to mingle with the new or expecting mom.

5) What kind of food is appropriate?

The food at the party does not necessarily have to be baby-themed, although that can be a nice touch. The most common baby-themed food is baby shower diaper cake. Your local bakery can also make other items like cookies and pastries in the shape of baby blocks, pacifiers, rubber ducks, and other baby items. Or you can make them yourself. Most importantly, make sure to pick food that everyone will enjoy.

If you are hiring a caterer, then be sure to ask them about their ideas and experiences with baby showers. They may have some creative ideas that you may not have thought about.

6) Decorations and party favors.

Your local party supply store will probably have plenty of decorations for your baby shower. Specifically themed decorations can also be purchased online.

Buying party favors for your guests is always a nice way to say thank you for coming. These gifts for your guests can range from themed candies to more expensive keepsakes, including personalized items. Special prizes can also be given out for game winners or other people who have been important in the mother's life and during the pregnancy.

7) During the party.

Greet the guests when they arrive and have others help out if necessary to make sure everything runs smoothly. And finally, don't forget to have fun after all the planning and preparation.

Baby Shower Invitation Wording

Your baby shower invitation wording can be either generic or specific. If you know the gender of the baby, then you should try to create gender specific wording for the baby shower invitation. There are wonderful little sayings for baby boys, as well as wonderful sayings for baby girls. But if the gender’s not yet known, don’t worry. There are many standard wording options as well.

You will find ideas online for twins, triplets, and even adoption baby shower invitation wording. You can search for ideas in many places, but the best place to look for anything in our world today is the Internet. Many invitation websites have what’s called ‘Wording Libraries’ where they offer hundreds of wording options for you. Your baby shower invitation wording could be in the form of a quote or baby poem. Wording for invitations can be casual or formal depending on the overall style and theme of the event. Just be sure to be consistent. People will assume that casual wording means it’s going to be a casual event!

Your baby shower invitation wording needs to contain some important information, like the time, date, location, and the names of the guests of honor! Don’t forget to include where the mother or mother to be is registered for gifts. And perhaps you’re throwing a surprise baby shower – what fun! Just be sure to tell your guests to keep it quiet in the baby shower invitation wording. Here is a sample wording for baby shower invitations when you want to keep the big event a surprise:

Shhh! It’s a Secret!

A Surprise Baby Shower for

Anne Marie Glenn

and newborn Joe Steven

Here is a sample wording when the invitation is for an adopted baby:

Let’s rejoice with the Thompsons

as they welcome

to their family.

Whatever you decide to say on your baby shower invitation, be sure to proofread your baby shower invitation wording and spelling to make sure that all of the information is correct. It would be a shame to order and pay for so many baby shower invitations, only to find printing mistakes and have the shipping delayed because of waiting for reprints. Taking time to proofread in advance is always a wise idea.

And if you’re not sure what to say, or if you’re not sure if the information is clear or if you wonder if it sounds all right, then don’t hesitate to get a second opinion. Family and friends can help you, and many vendors will have customer service representatives standing by ready to assist with wording for invitations.

While you’re ordering or creating the wording for your baby invitation, don’t forget to consider the wording of your thank you notes! Often these are ordered at the same time and made to match the invitations. Again, your wording can include poems quotes, etc. and you will want to keep the same style, color, or theme. Hopefully, you know the mother well enough to know what her preferences are.

And if you’re not trying to keep the baby shower event a surprise, then go ahead and ask her or her close family members about her opinions about the baby shower invitation wording. She may appreciate being a part of the decision making process, or she may be just as happy to have someone else make some decisions for her, so her mind can be on other important things, like preparing for the new baby’s arrival!

Baby Shower Gift Ideas

Everyone who has ever attended a baby shower knows that there are truly some essentials that every new mother should have. Diapers and booties for the baby, cream and lotion for changing diapers, and footie pajamas galore are always welcomed items. However, bringing a truly creative baby shower gift into the mix is a great way to show the new mother that her days of fun aren't necessarily over; they're just taking on a totally different outlook.

Baby Cakes

One creative baby shower gift that is quickly taking the west coast by storm is the "baby cake" or "diaper cake". Don't be fooled, these may look like a sweet confection, but the inside of the layers aren't filled with yellow or chocolate cake. No, the inside of these bundles are filled with diapers, lotions, powders, and even cans of formulas for when breast milk isn't quite practical. The look is fun and festive, and usually they can be personalized with either the baby's name or that of the parents. Ranging in price between $30 and $70, they can be a great way to get the new mother ready to go, for at least the first week or two!

A Tool Belt For Daddy

In today's world, the guests of the baby shower shouldn't assume that the father will not be up during the wee hours of the morning, changing diapers, or attempting to feed their pride and joy a meal or two along the way. The new daddy is an integral part of their baby's life. To help them navigate the pitfalls and sleepless nights that await them, a tool belt filled with the baby essentials is a great way for the dad to feel both needed and manly at the same time.

A Dozen "Eggs"

As any parent will tell you, the one piece of clothing that is continuously being misplaced or lost when it comes to kids are the little socks or booties that are so popular. With each grab of the foot, and a simple throw, a sock can be lost for months at a time. So having a good supply of these little pieces of cotton with treads is a great idea. A great way to help out is to give the new parents an egg carton or two with these little socks bundled up in each little egg cup. In addition to providing them with something they will need, the egg carton will be a cute reminder of the creative baby shower that you helped to give them.

Baby Shower for Second Baby

Having a shower for second baby used to be considered greedy and unacceptable. But now it is not only acceptable, but it is actually necessary for some families to have a baby shower for second baby. Though mom-to-be may already have a lot of the major items from her first baby. Crib, stroller, high chair - she will need many other items.

Moms-to-be always need things like diapers and wipes, undershirts, bath accessories, and feeding supplies. Second baby showers could actually be a “sprinkle” shower. A "sprinkle" shower is where guests buy only the necessities rather than having a full-blown shower.

You could also consider finding out from mom-to-be what she wished she had but didn’t get the first time around. Then add those items to the suggested gifts. It could also be a “Bear Necessities” theme decorated with all sorts of bears for the shower for second baby.

You could have baby showers for second baby for a caboose baby, or a baby born much later than other babies. Might be very similar to a first time baby shower. Most likely, if there are many years between babies, these parents no longer have any baby items and will be in need of all types of gifts for the second baby showers.

For moms-to-be who already have enough for the baby, you might consider having a “mom” baby shower where everyone brings a baby shower gift for mom-to-be instead of for the baby. These can be items with which she can pamper herself, or items that she may need while she is in labor.

Sometimes the mom-to-be doesn’t need anything for the baby or for herself, but she wants to have a get together with friends. For this type of party, you may want to ask guests to bring unwrapped baby gifts. You can all wrap these gifts at the party, label them, and then donate them to a charity in mom-to-be’s (or baby’s) name.

Baby showers for second babies can be directed towards helping out a new mom after the baby is born. If you hold the shower close enough to the baby’s birth you can have a “Freezer Party.” This is where baby shower guests bring assorted dishes that can be frozen and heated up so mom-to-be doesn’t have to worry about cooking. At least for the first week or so that she is home from the hospital.

“Helping Hands” are great for baby showers for second child. Ask guests not to buy gifts, coming instead with a homemade coupon redeemable for their services. These services can include babysitting an older child making dinner, or cleaning the house while mom and baby are still in the hospital.

You may even want to throw a baby shower to remind the mom-to-be that she won’t always be pregnant. Suggest buying gifts like sexy lingerie, sinful chocolates, and exotic beverages. All those things she has to keep away from while pregnant. Keep in mind that if you give alcoholic beverages to a nursing mother make sure she also has a breast pump and knows how to use it!

A gift certificate for a massage, dinner, or even a pre-natal class is a great idea as well. And don’t forget that mom-to-be will probably need nursing bras plus post-natal support garments as well (these might be fun as gag gifts).

Baby Shower Favor Ideas

With so many different aspects of a shower to plan, coming up with a baby shower favor idea is often the last consideration on a long list of planning.

There are several unique, exciting and interesting baby shower favor ideas that will work well for almost any shower. Whether traditional or alternative in nature, the following are popular baby shower favor ideas:

  • Bath and Body Items

  • Notepads

  • Pictures

  • Gift Certificates

  • Coupons

  • Gift Baskets

  • Designer Candles

  • Baby Bottles with Candy

No matter what baby shower favor idea you come up with, keep in mind that the majority of your guests are coming with one intention in mind, and that is to spoil and entertain the mom to be. Some important considerations when planning a shower include the food items, cake and games that will be played by visitors.

The mom to be or any friends of the family is likely to take an active interest in your planning efforts. If you are uncertain what favors might be well received, go over the guest list with your mom-to-be and try to get a feel for the personality of the ladies attending. You might find for example that a large majority of the moms that will be attending have children of their own. If this is the case don't hesitate to include helpful childcare or baby items that any mom would be appreciative of.

Some baby shower favor ideas are generated from the party theme itself. For example, if the motif of a shower is a color, such as green, you might consider acquiring some melon, lime or pear flavored hand soaps and lotions (that will of course, be green in color). You might even consider some "gag" gift items as party favors including stickers (which are sure to be well received from the children of guests).

Planning a baby shower requires an investment in time and energy. There is no reason to spend the majority of your planning time attempting to find appropriate party favors. There is a vast selection of products available, and ideas are easily discovered when one takes a moment to consider the shower theme, guests and mom-to-be's expectations.

Baby Showers To Remember

Every mother wants an enchanting baby shower for her new baby ranging from shower decorations to invitation. These baby showers are a mere cakewalk essential for the baby care by both the parents. Not only baby shower themes revolve around Rubber Duckies, Diapers, and Bottles but also involves like shower decorations, shower recipes.

Well there is a difference between extra and extraordinary and that is ‘extra’. This baby showers is truly an extraordinary achievements that help parents achieve their goal for their babies. Special baby shower includes decorations to the food and favors, special touches that will mother’s baby extra especial.

Baby showers nowadays start getting into progress during the mother’s pregnancy time only. All kinds of nursery colors can be used for baby especially for its napkins. The mother decides the colors. Usually pink is the opted color. The baby shower can have themes like bottle, diapers, etc. The guests are assigned a specific time and asked to come with gift and present it to the newly born baby or its mother. All parents must ensure that all babies clothing will be in multiples.

Babies theme can be given a green signal by introducing classes for babies; for instance the babies can start by learning their first school lesson through the alphabet letters. Baby shower really offers the theme required by the babies as they are born and brought up. Without this theme it would be difficult for parents to curl their babies.

There are various showers here like Office Party, Shower of Multiples, Baby Quilt Shower, Teddy Bear Shower, Baby Quilt Shower, Diaper Shower. Like in office party showers parents expecting more number of babies are advised to throw party upon guests and being given the multiple babies photos and asked to recognize who’s who and as they win in recognizing the respective babies; they are given prizes.

Keith Kingston is a professional web publisher who offers advice on baby names and nursery and shower themes.

Family Baby Showers

The addition of baby number 2, 3, or 10 is an occasion to celebrate for any family.

Just think how exciting it must be for your littlest one who is used to always being the younger brother to find out he’s going to be a big brother!

Though baby showers have traditionally been held for mommies-to-be only, times are changing and many people are having baby showers to celebrate the new baby’s whole family-to-be.

What better way to celebrate than to throw a baby shower party in their honor?! Grandparents or aunts or uncles can organize a baby party for the extended family and some close friends to mark the importance of the family unit.

Make a family tree to hang at the baby shower party. Have guests sign on their “branch” as a keepsake for the baby. “Trees” could be a baby shower theme for the party.

Other baby shower decorations for a family baby shower could include past portraits, baby pictures of Mom, Dad, and siblings, and a history of the family name.

Spend some time thinking about some funny stories from parties past. Like the time the expectant mom tripped during Aunt Edna’s wedding. Or when the new baby’s older brother fell asleep in the linen closet at the Christmas party last year.

Ask your baby shower guests to do the same and come prepared to share. These could be a whoot to retell. Beware: Mommy-to-be may laugh way too hard and cause herself to go into premature labor!

When sending out baby shower invitations, inform your guests that this will be a party for the whole family and that gifts for Mom, Dad and siblings are appreciated in addition to baby shower gifts for the new baby.

A few suggestions for one gift for the whole family. Buy a gift certificate for a portrait. Open a savings account for a future vacation. Or you can buy individual baby shower gifts for each, like matching t-shirts!

No gathering would be complete without a family photo. Make sure someone there has a camera with a timer on it and a tripod, or something that can substitute for one.

Then, once everyone is there, and Mom is ready (she may not feel like she looks so hot, so remind her how beautiful and glowing she is). Get the whole gang together and snap a photo for the baby shower remembrance.

Take lots of other pictures as well to let baby know just how much he or she was loved even before they arrived.

One idea for preserving the memory of baby’s creation is to do a belly casting. You can buy kits. They mainly consist of a plaster of Paris material to use for creating a cast of Mom’s belly. This will show the new little one where they started out.

If the new baby has a lot of young cousins and siblings, keep them occupied with their own special task. Provide them with a large piece of paper and coloring supplies. Either markers, paints, or crayons. Ask them to create a welcome home banner for the baby. Then place it over the crib in the nursery.

You may want to start by providing the lettering. Then let the children color the words and add their own artwork. Don’t forget to include the ‘big’ kids, too. Have all of your baby shower guests sign the banner as well.

About Baby Shower

A baby shower is a party in which parents or expectant parents receive gifts for their newborn or expected child. By convention, a baby shower is intended to help parents get items that they need for their baby, such as baby clothes. It is a popular tradition in the United States and in other cultures, often influenced by American culture or media. In some countries this party is not celebrated until the baby is born.

Activities

Some classic activities at baby showers include:

* Baby shower bingo.
* Guess the birth date or guess the sex.
* Guess the expectant mother's girth: guests cut pieces of ribbon, yarn, or toilet paper to a length they believe matches the mother-to-be's tummy circumference. Another similar game is tying a string around her abdomen, and if it breaks for one person, it's expected she or he's the next new parent.
* Guess the baby food flavor: guests have to taste-test several flavors of baby food and try to identify them.
* Other games include a diaper throw game, and the diapers have candies or chocolate stuff.
* Opening the gifts in front of the guests.
* Serving cake, though any type of food or beverage might be served.

Terms

* "Daddy's shower" refers to a men-only shower for the dad-to-be.
* "Grandma's shower" refers to a shower at which people bring items for the grandparents to keep at their house, such as a collapsible crib and a changing pad.
* "Diaper shower" or a baby sprinkle refers to a small-scale baby shower, generally for subsequent children, when the parents don't need as many items.
* "Pampers party" is also a men's-only shower, usually held the same night as the women's baby shower. The men usually give the daddy-to-be diapers only because the mommy-to-be is getting other items at the shower.
* "Blessingway" is a variation on a baby shower that is focused on emotional and spiritual support rather than gift giving.

Creative Baby Shower Invitations

You are in charge of hosting a baby shower for your best friend. You've made the guest list, menu, and figured out the decorations. But what are you going to do for invitations. Store bought ones seem so impersonal to you, so why not make your own?

It doesn't take a lot of talent, or even craftiness, to make your own invitation. All it takes is the right tools and some creativity.

To make any of the follow invitations you'll need to have the right tools. Here is a list of the basic craft items you'll need.

- Scissors

- Glue

- Construction paper

- Baby stickers and decorative cutouts

- Colored pens or markers

- Standard invitation envelopes for mailing

Each invitation is simple to make and will make a lasting impression on your guests. Just remember to save a couple of them for the mother-to-be for her baby book. And now, on to the invitations.

Diaper Days: A cute invitation is to take a piece of pink or light blue cardboard paper - both if you don't know the baby's gender, and cut it in a triangle shape. On the inside center write the party information, along with any other information the guests need to know. Fold the sides of the triangle in on themselves and then fold the bottom point up too, making a diaper-shaped triangle. Using either a real diaper pin, or a sticker of one, seal the invitation up and send it on it's way. It's cute and will get your guests in the mood for a baby shower.

Birth Certificates: Another cute invitation is to make a small birth certificate. Have the parent's names on there, with the other party information as well. You can use a computer and good quality paper and there are even seals you can buy to put on the invites to give them an official look.

Baby Blocks: Cut out squares of different colored construction paper and put the letters A, B, and C on them using colored markers or scrapbook stickers. For each invitation you'd need one of each. Glue them on another piece of colored paper, with the blocks overlapping so they look like building blocks. Write the party information around the blocks and send them off.

Hand/Foot Prints: Draw hand and foot prints on pink and light blue construction paper. Write the party information on one side and slip into an envelope for an easy and adorable invitation.

With just a little creativity, and some work, you can make your friend's baby shower invites extra special. Just have fun with them and you won't be disappointed.

Dawn Arkin has planned numerous baby showers and enjoys making her own invitations. This article has been submitted in affiliation with http://www.BabyNameVote.Com/ which is a site for Baby Names.

Baby Shower Gift Baskets

More and more people are turning to baby shower gift baskets as an alternative to picking out one special baby gift. Baby shower gift baskets make perfect sense, because they are the perfect gift when filled with practical and playful things a baby needs.

Baby showers are a happy occasion that can give new parents-to-be all the essentials they need to keep a new baby happy for many months. Close family members usually buy the big items that baby needs like cribs and cradles, strollers, high chairs, etc. Therefore, filling a basket with everyday essentials including disposal diapers, receiving blankets, nightgowns, washcloths, wipes and towels is a great gift and will certainly be appreciated. And, the great thing about baskets is that you can fill them with almost anything that is baby appropriate. If you'd rather have a fun- filled basket, you can purchase soft toys, rattles, teething rings, powders and creams. It all depends on how creative you want to be and what you think a new mother and baby will need.

There are basically two ways to purchase a baby shower gift basket. You can either buy a basket or any other baby product like a tub, baby seat, etc, that can be filled with goodies, or you can purchase a complete basket at any shop that caters to new mothers and babies. Shops usually make up baby baskets with a theme in mind like bath time, sleepy time or play time. For example, a bath time basket might be filled with baby shampoos, soaps, washcloths and towels and a few bathtub toys like rubber ducks and boats. If you choose to make a bath time basket up yourself, you can fill a baby bath tub with the same items and probably save yourself some money.

You can also find baby gift baskets at several online sites. They usually offer an assortment of baskets to choose from and are delivered nicely wrapped with a special note from you.

Baby Gift Baskets provides detailed information on Baby Gift Baskets, Baby Shower Gift Baskets, Baby Boy Gift Baskets, Baby Girl Gift Baskets and more. Baby Gift Baskets is affiliated with Baby Shower Gifts.

Six Ways to Save on Your Baby Shower

It's time to celebrate the baby! As Keepsake Favors' resident baby shower expert, I've learned how to plan a great party without draining your bank account. Here are my top choices for fun, festive baby showers that won't put you in the poor house.

Host the Baby Shower at Home

Restaurants can run up a hefty bill (unless you ask each guest to pay their own way), and a caterer can also run you into a small fortune. Hosting the shower at your home can be a great way for your guests to bond with one another and still have a fun party.

Grab Game Ideas From the Internet

You don't need to go out and buy elaborate baby shower games - the internet has gobs of baby shower games you can get - presto! Instant baby shower fun.

Choose an Earlier Time of Day

On the average, evening parties tend to be more expensive - dinner food and alcohol can run into a lot of cash fast. Instead, have a Sunday brunch with a delicious egg dish and punch, or an afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and lots of cake. Better still, if you want to avoid a meal altogether, choose a time when you can be sure most everyone has eaten (say, 2:00, which is past lunch), and then you can still have some snacks and a slice of cake instead.

Get Creative With the Decorations

Move over, Martha, you don't need a mint to make the shower fabulous. Choose a theme that will be lots of fun (like ducks or bears, or It's a boy/girl) and you're on your way. Create invitations on the computer; use colorful balloons for centerpieces (they're usually more affordable than flowers), and decorate each place setting with small accessories that will add interest to the table, and your guests can take home.

Ask For Help!

If you've got a talented baker friend, ask her to bake the cake or cupcakes. Rope Aunt Barbara into making her famous California salad. Getting more people involved will take some of the pressure off of you - and everyone will want to pitch in for the mommy-to-be!

Create Your Own Favors

Don't worry, I'm talking semi homemade. A memorable favor can be as easy as this: Purchase some pre-made treats like chocolates in fun shapes or pastel colored candies, then slip them in a little box or cello bag. All that's left is to tie on a beautiful bow and you've just created a unique favor, and saved some money too. For a brunch or lunch, put one at each placesetting to double as a decoration, or fill up a pretty basket with your favors and let guests help themselves.

Now, go get started on your amazing baby shower!

Baby Shower Gift Buying 101

Many women who get invited to baby showers don’t have children of their own, leaving them with no idea what to buy for the soon-to-be mom. While most go to the store where the mother has registered, some are now thinking outside the box with personalized baby gifts rather than what is listed in the registry. Many shower-goers are now buying theme-related items to give as baby shower gifts, just to give that personalized feel.

If the mother has picked out the name for the baby, pick up a few items and get the baby’s name imprinted on them. An easy idea for a baby gift is buying something essential, then spicing it up with some small accessories. Still not feeling very creative? Well here is a simple list of some of the most popular items to give as baby shower gifts. A gift for mom and dad

The mom-to-be is so concentrated on the baby right now, that she and the father have no time to think about themselves, and the baby isn’t even here yet. Rather than buying a baby gift, get something for mom and dad to use after the baby is born, such as a couple’s massage or a gift certificate for dinner. The baby shower is sure to get them all the essentials for the baby, so why not give them something they can use for themselves. A themed basket

This is the perfect baby gift idea for someone who is on a budget. Just go to the store where the mother has registered and simply buy the sheets or blankets she has asked for. Then go around the store and buy some little toys or must-have baby essentials, such as pacifiers, baby bottles or bibs. These are the items that most likely will be neglected by other guests who buy more expensive gifts. A designer baby bag

If your on a tight budget, you don’t have to splurge to get a designer baby bag. Most mothers will be happy with anything that doesn’t actually look like a baby bag, and looks stylish at the same time. Vera Bradley bags are one of the most popular bags for mothers to use, and they aren’t even baby bags. After buying the bag, you can add a personal touch to it by adding some little baby gifts inside. A baby tub

This is a simple baby gift idea that can let you have some fun while buying it. After purchasing the tub, add all of the essentials the mother will need for the baby during bath time. This can include shampoo, bubbles and some little toys. You can even add some things for mom, because she is unlikely to have much time to herself once the baby arrives. An activity gym

After the baby is born, mom will need something so that the baby can stay occupied in its crib for as long as possible. An activity gym is the perfect idea for this. Look for one that has many colors, lights up, and has toys within the baby’s reach so that it will keep the baby’s interest. A baby monitor

Most first time moms are nervous to leave their baby alone for a second, let alone a whole night. Let mom and dad sleep in peace with a simple baby monitor that will allow them to hear if the baby does wake up. Now that you have your baby shower gift in mind, whether it’s for baby or for mom and dad, get to your nearest registry and have fun shopping! Remember to be creative, and buy a baby gift that mom-to-be will remember you for!

Amazing Baby Shower Mini Cakes

Are you trying to think of a fun and original idea for a baby shower cake? Have you thought about making mini baby shower cakes? These are like regular cakes but much smaller and a lot more fun. They are great for a variety of reasons.

Individualize

That’s right we all love things with our own names on it and things made to our special likes and dislikes. Well, mini cakes are quick and easy to make and this will allow you time to individualize them. You can easily make three or four different cake mixes and from there make 5 to 10 mini cakes from each mix. This gives you an unlimited amount of variety. You can have a chocolate or a white cake with just about any type of frosting or flavor in the middle. How many times have you had to choke down a cake because you did not want to appear rude? As the guest you often don’t have any choice in what the cake flavor is and you can end up having to eat something you don’t even like. With mini cakes and the easy of baking them you can customize the cakes with a few easy changes and then offer your guests the exact cake they like.

Use as Centerpieces

Depending on the exact size and specifications of your baby shower mini cakes these can serve as wonderful centerpieces for the baby shower table decorations. Just think you get more bang for the buck this way. Your decorations and your cake all rolled into one! If you decorate each mini cake in a different way with different colored frosting and different decorations you can easily create a ton of stunning centerpieces. For example if your baby shower theme was Noah’s Ark you could make 5 mini cakes for the centerpieces and then on each cake decorate different groups of animals that will go onto the ark. Just to carry the theme a little farther instead of doing the traditional Noah’s ark theme of two of each animal by sex do two of each animal as a mother and baby. So on one cake at a table you might have a mother and baby Giraffe. Then at another table you might have a mother and baby elephant. Of course at the table where the guest of honor will be sitting you could tie in the theme by adding the ark into the decoration. People will love to walk around and look at these wonderful unique mini baby shower cakes!

Table Decorations

If you don’t want to use theme as centerpieces because you have some other ideas for that already why not use them as a seat decoration. Simply make the cakes and then when decorating add each guests name at the bottom of the cake in a fun script type of writing. These will serve as wonderful table decoration and a seating name cards at the same time. People will be delighted to see their own name on the cute little mini cake.

No Waste

One of the best thing about mini cakes is you have a lot less left over. With big traditional wedding or baby shower cakes there is always a ton of left overs that you have to force upon everyone to take home. However, with cute little baby shower mini cakes you no longer have to worry about extras because each cake can be one serving! However these are so cute that you guests might want to take them home to keep for a while and savor the moment.

Easy to Store

Mini cakes are so small that they are incredibly easy to store. You can really use these to benefit your baby shower planning and timeline by making the cakes two to three weeks ahead of time and then simply stick them in the freezer. Take them out the day before and decorate. You have no taken out one of the last minute items that can cause a panic right before the baby shower.

As you can see baby shower mini cakes can be a ton of fun for all the guests and can be sued in a variety of ways to save you a great deal of time. These are truly the perfect option for cakes: time saving, personalized, and can be used for decorations. What more can you ask for in a cake.

5 Hot Baby Shower Game Ideas

Baby shower games are a wonderful addition to any baby shower. They can be used as a ice breaker to get things warmed up or they can be used to fill in time between other activities or as an optional activity for those who want to do something fun.

Some things that you want to think about before planning baby shower games are to think of the target audience. What are the ages of people attending the baby shower and what types of games would they like. It is best to plan baby shower games that encourage people to interact. When people talk to each other, work together, and talk they have more fun. It also helps to have some type of small prize. This helps motivated people, instills a little bit of friendly competition and gets people into the game. This does not need to be an expensive party favor or anything just something small and simple. A candy bar, a candle, bar of soap or any other fun trinket will work.

Nursery Rhyme fill In- This is an easy general game that can be played by everyone. Prepare some nursery rhymes before hand by deleting a few random words out of the text. Then read the nursery rhyme aloud and people try to guess the deleted word as your reading.

Baby Memory Game- This is a great memory game for the intellectual types in the crowd. Prepare a large tray with 10 to 15 baby items. Things like bottles, diapers, and so on. Then cover the tray with a blanket and place it in the middle of the room where everyone can easily view it. Take the blanket off for 10 to 15 seconds and then place the blanket back. You can then provide all the guests with a piece of paper and they write down all of the things thy can remember from the tray.

What Is the Mystery Taste? – Prepare this one ahead of time by purchasing a few different jars of baby food. Take the labels off or cover them with some opaque paper. Number the jars so you have a reference for the contents of each jar. Then have people take small bites and try to identify the food.

You Did What? – This can be a fun game for people that know a little bit about each other before coming to the shower. As people come to the shower have them complete a small piece of paper where they list 4 little known things about themselves. They do not need to write their name on the paper and then just collect all of the slips of paper in a bag or box. Then one at a time people pull out a paper, read it and try to guess who it is about.

Three Truths and a Lie- This is similar to the game above but another fun variation. As guests arrive have them write 4 things about themselves. One of the items that they write about themselves is a lie and the other three should be true. They will then read this aloud to the group and everyone will try to guess which one is the lie.

Baby shower games can be free, cheap and easy to put together yet they add a nice touch to the baby shower. People can become more relaxed and feel comfortable by playing baby shower games and it helps the interaction flow a little more smoothly. Often people are stuck talking about he weather, work or other mundane topics. By playing some fun baby shower games you can energize the crowd and create a fun open environment in which people can easily strike up spontaneous deep conversations.

Baby Shower Games

So, you've sent out your invitations, planned the food and now you are now wondering what to do on the day. Games are often the right answer, but they need to be carefully thought of - will your baby shower have older guests or other babies and children? If so, you'll have to carefully think about what games are suitable and entertaining for everyone. This page will hopefully give you a few ideas to think about!

You will find that all of these games can easily be adapted into children's party games for when they are over 4 years old - you may even remember some of them yourself!

Baby Taste Buds

This is perfectly suitable for all ages, although slightly older children may be a little too "cool" for this one! Buy yourself several pots of baby food, all different flavors and either find a convenient scarf or large sock to act as a blindfold, or remove the labels. Some people and children won't like being blindfolded while some will think it is great fun, so you'll have to judge this yourself. The idea of the game is to taste each food and see how many each person can correctly identify.

Baby Memory

This game is more suitable for children over 8yrs old and adults as it uses a little 'brain power'! Based on the classic memory game with a tray of items to memorize, this game simply replaces the standard items with themed baby items, so dummies, diapers, food, toys and anything that you have already bought for your baby. Produce the tray of goodies and put it in front of everyone from anywhere between 30 seconds and a minute, then cover up the tray with a tea-towel or just take it into another room. The guests then have to try to correctly remember and write down as many of the items as possible. The winner is the one who remembers the most.

Baby Bumps

Whether or not the parents have decided on the name of their child, this game is always a laugh - it combines the classical "musical bumps" party game with the theme of baby showers. Instead of using chairs, find enough large sheets of paper so that all but one person has a piece, and ask everyone to write down a potential name for the baby. These can be placed on cushions in a line for added comfort! Then, when the music plays, in true musical bumps fashion, you should all run round the papers, and when it stops, you quickly find a piece of paper to sit on. The mother (or mother to be) then announces the name of the baby on her paper and discards it before the music starts again. The person who didn't manage to sit on a piece of paper is "out" of the game. This carries on until there's just one person sitting on one piece of paper, which could be the name of the new-born baby - or it could be ridiculous, in which case it is even more amusing!

As long as you can keep the afternoon light-hearted and enjoyable, nobody will really mind what you do. It is a good idea to have a few games ready, especially if you have invited other children just to break the ice. Hopefully with these three games up your sleeve, you will be able to make a fun baby-shower for your new-born.

Baby Shower Footprint Invitation Designs

You're having a baby shower? Congratulations -- now one of your first jobs will be to let your guests know about the happy event!

A very popular design for baby party invites is a baby shower footprint invitation. It's a charming way to celebrate the imminent arrival of a new member of the family -- and, as an added bonus, it fits in with almost any theme you may choose for your festivities.

As with any party planning, it's a good idea to think well ahead. Your guests will appreciate being given adequate notice of the shower and it will help them have a better chance of being able to attend. You'll also save yourself the headache of preparing for the party in a rush! It's usually a good idea to send out your invitations four or five weeks in advance.

The baby footprint theme provides an excellent motif for many aspects of the shower, not just the invitations. One simple image communicates the ideas of innocence and sweetness that everyone associates with the birth of a baby boy or girl. You can extend it to decorations, shower favors -- even place settings at the table.

You'll often find the baby footprint design in commercially produced invitations and party supplies. But some people like to make their own shower invitations, in order to lend a more imaginative touch. If you want to do this, a simple footprint motif is quite easy to create at home -- and handmade, personalized baby shower invites suit the beauty and style of baby shower well.

Here are some simple design suggestions:

* footprint outlines or cutout shapes

* footprints as a background to text

* a footprint 'trail' -- just as if the baby had walked across the invitation!

Keep the concept simple and ensure that colors of the motif and text complement background shade of the paper or card stock that you choose. If you wish, you could base your invtiations on traditional colors -- blue for a baby boy or pink for a girl. And if this seems a bit too traditional for your taste (or if you don't yet know the gender of the baby), why not go for other pastel shades such as green or yellow?

If you're planning to make your own invitations, ask for rubber stamps of baby footprints at your local craft supply shop -- or you can do an online search. Experiment with different color inks and patterns to find a look that appeals to you.

Once you've decided on a design, you could extend this theme from the invitations to other items such as game prizes, thank you cards and so on. It's a great way to create a unique look for your baby shower party.

Preparing for a Baby Shower

Theme

With any party event requires meticulous preparation. A baby shower is no exception. First and foremost, you should determine the theme of the party. Choose a theme that is fun and fits the parent’s interests and personality. The more creative you get the more original the shower will be. You can choose from a favorite Disney character/movie to a nautical theme, religious, brunch theme or historical event. Theme ideas are endless and you should choose one that is appropriate.

With a theme in place, it will be easier to choose the invitations, decorations, food, party favors and even games. When you choose a theme, stick with it. Changing a theme in the middle of the planning could prove to be costly. I’ve heard too many times, hosts changing the overall baby shower theme and to only find their costs doubling and are left with useless party supplies because they no longer fit the new theme.

Decorations

Once you decide on a theme for the baby shower, choosing decorations will be much easier. Decorations do not need to be over done. Depending on your theme, some common decorations used are balloons, streamers, banner signs and flowers. Decorations do not need to be expensive and with careful shopping, you can find some inexpensive decorations by creating them yourself, buying them in bulk or going to your local discount stores. If your on a budget and can’t afford all decorations mentioned, than I highly suggest going with balloons. You can get a large number of inexpensive latex balloons inflated with helium. Balloons are excellent to adding color and filling up a room.

Food

Any good party doesn’t go well without food. You have many food choices out there and you should choose foods that fit the shower theme if possible. You can serve anything from finger foods, chips, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas or any dish imaginable. Don’t forget the sodas, punch, wine and desserts.

Invitations

Well, a party isn’t a party without people. One of the most common ways to invite guests to a party is with invitations. You can send your invitations by mail give them in person or use the ever-growing Internet to send or make your invitations. Whichever method you use, you should send or give the invitations out at least one month prior to the party. This way, you allow your guests time to arrange their schedules and to select a gift for the party.

There are many venues you can choose to make your invitations. You can go to your local party supply store and select one of their template designs. Remember the theme of the party while choosing a design. Add the party information and they’ll send it off to their printer. If you’re creative, you can design your own invitation or acquire the help of a graphic designer. Then have a printer print them or print them out on your home computer. Personally, invitations printed from a home computer usually looks cheap and unappealing. If it’s in the budget, have the professional printer to print them.

Favors

Party favors are small gifts given to your guests showing your appreciation for participating in your event. Favors can be anything from chocolates and candles in the shape of baby bottles rattles and bears. Decorative boxes or sachet bags with gift items are also popular as well as, soaps, picture frames and figurines to name a few. Favors can range from a few cents to several dollars apiece. What ever your budget is, keep in mind there are many options for favors within various price ranges. Do your research and shop around.

Games

If you’re going to have a party, then you will want your guests to have fun. Providing different game activities throughout the party are one of the best ways to get some laughs. There are many baby shower games out there and it is only limited by your imagination. Go to a search engine (Google, Yahoo, MSN) and type in "Baby Shower Games". You'll pull up many baby shower game ideas. Choose games that are appropriate and fun for your guests. It's always a good idea to give out little gifts to the winners of each game.
